North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has warned people to eat less in the current food crisis. This crisis is expected to continue till 2025.
Kim Jong Un blamed a "series of deviations" for food shortages, saying "the human food situation is getting worse now because agriculture has failed to meet its grain production plans."
In June of this year, Kim Jong Un called on officials to find ways to increase agricultural production. According to Radio Free Asia (RFA), "Two weeks ago, they told a meeting of the Neighboring Watch Unit that their food emergency would continue until 2025."
The closure of North Korea's border with China has led to a food crisis that was imposed in 2020 to curb the Kovid-19 infection. The closure of the border has further weakened North Korea's economy, cutting off trade with China. Last summer, typhoons, and floods destroyed crops in North Korea, making the situation worse. As a result of the closure of the border with China, North Korea's economy has been affected and food prices have risen, resulting in the destruction of hunger among its 25 million people.
The chances of China and North Korea crossing the border before 2025 are very slim. Some residents feel that the situation is so bad at the moment that they wonder if they will be able to survive the coming winter. In May, South Korea's government research institute, the Korea Development Institute, predicted that North Korea could face an estimated one million tons of food crisis this year.
