The United Kingdom has approved 'effective' drugs against 'Omicron': The United Kingdom on Thursday approved the oral medication GlaxoSmithKline to treat Omicron. The news agency AFP reported this in a report.

The British drug and healthcare product regulator (MHRA) says that the drug GlaxoSmithKline is also effective against those who are suffering from severe corona infections and whose lives are at risk. The drug's manufacturers claim that the drug is effective even against the alarming variant of Corona Omicron.

According to the MHRA, the drug, called Sotrovimab, has been shown to be safe and effective in reducing the risk of hospitalization and death in people with mild to moderate coronary heart disease.

Sotrovimab has been shown to be effective in preventing mutations in the new Omicron SARS-Cow-to variant, GlaxoSmithKline said in a statement.

So far, there has been evidence that Sotrovimab has been shown to be effective in counteracting the effects of Omicron, the statement said.

The drug is being tested to determine how effective it is against Omicron. GlaxoSmithKline plans to make a final announcement by the end of 2021.

According to the MHRA, a single dose of this drug can reduce the risk of hospitalization and death of an infected adult by 69 percent.

Sotrovimab is a joint venture between GlaxoSmithKline in the UK and Veer Biotechnology based in California.

The drug contains a type of monoclonal antibody. It contains a type of protein that reduces the ability of coronavirus spike proteins to enter the body's cells.
