SpaceX capsule toilet is broken, astronauts will return to Earth after diapers. |
The astronauts who will depart from the International Space Station on Sunday to return to Earth will have to wear diapers throughout their journey. Because the toilet in the SpaceX capsule is broken, they can no longer use it.
According to The Guardian, NASA astronaut Megan MacArthur described the situation as "suboptimal" but manageable.
He will have to spend the next 20 hours in that capsule with 3 other astronauts. They are expected to come out of the capsule after landing on Monday morning.
"Spaceflight is full of many small challenges," MacArthur told a news conference from Orbit. This is one of the problems we face. But we will try to solve it and we are not too worried about it.
After several meetings on Friday, the mission managers decided to bring the four astronauts back to Earth before sending others. The launch of SpaceX has been delayed by more than a week due to bad weather and the medical complications of a crew. Now SpaceX has set Wednesday night for a safe launch.
