U.S. President Joe Biden says he has talked about Taiwan with Chinese President Xi Jinping and they both agree to abide by the ‘Taiwan Agreement’.
This information was given in a report of Reuters on Wednesday.
"I talked to Shi about Taiwan," Biden said last Tuesday. We agree to abide by the Taiwan Agreement. I don't think he should do anything other than abide by the agreement. '
According to the Taiwan Agreement or the Taiwan Relations Act, Washington will give preference to Beijing over Taipei in terms of diplomatic relations. Instead, China will refrain from creating unrest in Taiwan and Taiwan's future will be determined peacefully.
China considers the island region of Taiwan as part of its territory. However, Taiwan sees itself as a sovereign state. China recently sent a record number of military aircraft over Taiwan's airspace. This created tension between the two sides.
