Biden again rejected Trump's request for executive benefits |
Former United States President Joe Biden has again rejected former President Donald Trump's request for executive benefits. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Trump sought to prevent the Committee to Investigate the Attack on the US Capital on January 8 of this year from having access to some important documents.
According to a report in the US media CNN, White House adviser Dana Remus wrote a letter to National Archives Chief David Ferreiro last Monday, urging him not to keep Biden.
In fact, as a former president, Trump used his executive powers to keep important documents secret.
Trump has already filed a lawsuit against the National Archives, the agency that oversees all documents in his administration. The purpose of this lawsuit is to ensure that the said confidential documents do not reach Congress. In the absence of a court order, the National Archives will begin handing over the documents to the inquiry committee from November 12.
"President Biden has taken into account former President Trump's remarks and I have discussed the matter with the relevant law department," Remus said in a letter collected by CNN.
President Biden acknowledged that the decision was not in the best interests of the United States and that it was not in the best interests of the United States. Overall, President Biden is not accepting former President Trump's demands for special privileges, "he said.
Various types of information have already been requested from various US government agencies as part of the investigation. The committee specifically asked for "details of all internal communications in the White House" on January 8. Contains all phone call logs, details of meetings of top executives and advisers, and other activities.
Legal experts say only President Biden has the authority to make the final decision on whether the documents fall under special privileges. With representatives of Biden's party chairing the inquiry, the possibility of a change in Trump's decision is in question.
