Light and healthy recipes are also something many dieters look for when they want to take off the pounds. Some have digestive health problems and can only handle light meals. If you have (or are afraid you are about to develop) diabetes, light menus are going to be your best friend. You can find some of these out in restaurants, but your best bet is to learn how to make up your own so that you can eat what you should be eating each and every time you prepare a meal for yourself or for your entire family. Once you start eating better, you are going to feel better.
The basis for most light and healthy recipes are lean meats, if you eat meats, or hearty vegetables that are full of fiber and very filling, but not the in bogged down way you feel after polishing off a plate of heavy pancakes. Think about your options in this area and write down the ones that you like the most. This could be chicken breast, lean pork, lean beef, turkey breast burger, or vegetables like eggplant, broccoli, or cauliflower. Those can be the basis for your meals, and then you can add what you like to them.
You think of gravy as a heavy sauce and not part of light and healthy recipes. However, sauces are great on most meals and do not have to be heavy. Find ways to make light sauces, and new ways to use healthy salad dressings to add flavor and dimension to your meals. Pasta and rice can also be a part of light recipes, but you should stick with brown or wild rice, along with whole grain pasta. Use small servings of these to enhance your light recipes and to add variety when you feel you are eating the same thing over and over again.
Light and healthy recipes do not have to be meat based, and they can be anything you like that you feel is good for you. Some people simply eat a selection of fruit for a light meal, or for breakfast in the morning. A simple salad with some additions can make a filling yet light meal when you are out and you don’t feel that many of the menu options are right for you. Just be aware of the caloric content of some of the things they may put on your salad, and ask for the dressing on the side so that you can control how much is on the salad.
