A feature called 'Locked Folder' has been added to the Google Photos viewing and saving app Photos. This allows you to select photos and videos from the main page of the app and put them in a separate folder. According to a report by The Verge, initially, the feature was only available in Google's own 'Pixel' series smartphones, but this time it is coming to other Android smartphones as well.

Last September, Google announced that Locked Folder would soon be added to the Photos app on more Android smartphones. According to a report by Android Central.com, the new feature has already been seen in the devices of Samsung and OnePlus.

This allows you to select specific images and videos in the Photos app and place them in a passcode or biometric-locked folder. It will not show those pictures or videos on the main page of the app, nor will they be in the cloud drive. The feature first appeared on Google's own series of smartphones (Pixel 3 and above) in June, after it was first unveiled at the Google IoT conference in May.

The feature is expected to be phased out on Android 8 or later smartphones. And it will come to Apple's iOS devices early next year. If you go to the utility option from the app library, you should get a locked folder.

If you already have this feature on your device, it is good to know that images or videos stored in a locked folder will not be stored in Google's cloud drive. Deleting the Photos app will automatically delete all photos or videos in that folder.
