Russia fines Facebook-Twitter-TikTok

The fine was handed down by Moscow's Tagansky District Court on Thursday (December 16th). This information has been given in a recent report of Business Standard.

The court said Meta Platform was fined 13 million rubles (18,926) in three separate administrative cases for failing to remove banned content. Twitter has been fined 10 million rubles and TikTok 4 million rubles for two of these cases.

A Moscow court has ruled that this is a new form of punishment against foreign technology companies.

Originally, the Russian government ordered the deletion of content that is considered illegal, but Meta did not listen. That is why the company has to pay the fine.

Earlier, the country has repeatedly fined foreign tech giants including Google, Twitter, and Facebook. The Russian government has often taken legal action against Internet platforms for not deleting content that is considered illegal.

However, Meta and Facebook authorities did not comment on the fine.
